Hello Traffic engineers and City council 4 ]
This is a follow up on my earlier email on traffic congestion due to proposed road narrowing on W
Los Positas by removing car lanes and making bike lanes
• I have observed very few elementary schools children biking on the tract you are planning to narrow on Los
Positas from Santa Rita/Owens drive to Fairlands school. Many parents from the Owens drive apartments walk
across and drop their kids when weather is good. After that people prefer to drop kids in cars in winter/rain.
• I have seen new signs where you are asking parents not to take the cross walk on Fairlands, but cross from
Santa Rita, so as to reduce congestion. Thanks for that.
• There is still traffic bottleneck on Las Positas from Fairlands school in mornings. Please find attached pictures
taken today as evidence.
• Also there is slow traffic buildup in evenings due to restaurants Gold Chop sticks, Venkatesh Bhavan and New
India Bazar in the strip mall. There is plan to narrow road in front of it too, which will worsen traffic.
Suggested Improvements:
• Note. for some reason the walking signal from Valley care hospital to Fairlands school side on Santa Rita
was removed and put on opposite side around 6 years back.
• Most people who walk and drop their kids , live on apartments on same side as Valley care hospital
• Hence today these parents and their young kids cross Los Positas/Santa Rita twice..and then reach Fairlands,
when they can easily walk on the same side if the Valley care to Fairlands school signal is opened for walking.
What we have now is very silly and somewhat unsafe
So please do the need ful as this is a simple solution and costs almost nothing,
And yes we need roads to be broadened in the Fairlands/Los Positas area if possible, so cars can
travel without congestion especially from Dec to May.
So please no narrowing of W Las Positas to please handful of bikers who are lucky enough to work
close by or their hobbyists buddies, versus the majority of car drivers who need to drive to work and
mothers who have to drive their kids around .
Thanks, Sachin
On Tuesday September 17 2019. 06 59 19 PM PDT, Sachin Bhayar, j ote:
10
