BACKGROUND The Police Department's patrol fleet consists of 27 Ford Police Utility Interceptors. The pursuit-rated Utility Interceptors provide safety benefits, comfort, and functionality that are sometimes limited by other patrol vehicle types. Based on research completed by Staff, Hybrid Utility Interceptors are quickly becoming the industry standard and the best choice for a patrol vehicle for Pleasanton. Due to the operational use of the patrol vehicles and warranty periods, a five-year life cycle has been determined for replacement. Patrol vehicles operate with frequent stop- and-go, long periods of idling, and high speeds that create significant wear and tear on the cars, increasing the cost of maintenance. DISCUSSION The patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced this fiscal year are approaching their five- year or 100,000-mile warranty expiration or have exceeded maintenance cost thresholds. The total maintenance cost (excluding fuel) for the patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced is $88,126 as shown in Table 1. This replacement schedule showcases the six patrol vehicles scheduled to be replaced with the model year, vehicle type, current mileage, estimated mileage at the time of replacement, and maintenance costs for FY 2023/24. The vehicles have experienced major maintenance expenditures but were covered under warranty. Exceeding the warranty time frame will significantly increase maintenance costs. City staff will remove all aftermarket police-related equipment and decals from the units designated for replacement. Subsequently, these stripped vehicles will be prepared for public auction once the replacement vehicles are received.
