BACKGROUND
The Budget Act of 2022 (Assembly Bill 178, Chapter 45, Statutes of 2022) established
the Officer Wellness and Mental Health Grant Program to support law enforcement
agencies for the purpose of improving officer wellness and expanding mental health
sources. As a result, the BSCC distributed $50,000,000 to city and county law
enforcement agencies throughout the state-, Pleasanton has received $54,762 from the
grant program.
DISCUSSION
The BSCC Officer Wellness and Mental Health grant will assist the City in expanding its
existing peer support units, providing more comprehensive services by a licensed
mental health professional, and in developing other evidence-based programs or
services that have been demonstrated to enhance police officer wellness. These grant
funds will allow the City to develop innovative programs to enhance police officer
wellness and mental health resources.
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution (Attachment 1) accepting the
$54,762 in Officer Wellness and Mental Health grant funding and appropriate the funds
to programs that further focus on, enhance officer wellness and expand mental health
resources.
Submitted b Fiscal Review: Approved by:
David Swing Susan Hsieh Gerry Beaudin
Chief of Police Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
