Housing Element AFFH Survey Summary <br /> <br />23 <br />2.2.5 Open Ended Questions <br /> <br />Survey respondents wrote in an open response to questions 2, 3, and 4 of the survey asked <br />respondents: <br /> <br />• What do you think are the most important problems facing your local area today? <br />• Thinking about the future of your neighborhood. what gives you cause for optimism? <br />• Thinking about the future of your neighborhood, what are you most concerned about? <br />Responses provided input which was aggregated to the degree possible into common themes and <br />ideas. Consistent with a number of responses to other survey questions, a substantial number of <br />respondents who provided an answer indicated that they are concerned about housing affordability <br />and availability. <br /> <br />The following provides theme areas that arose for respondents regarding the most important <br />problems facing Pleasanton today: <br /> <br />• Housing Availability: Respondents indicated that there are not enough affordable housing <br />units available, pricing out renters and first-time home buyers (16 mentions) <br />• Housing Cost & Affordable Housing: The respondents indicated that the most important <br />issue is affordable housing. Respondents called about the cost of housing (131 mentions). <br />• Political: Focus on political impediments to housing goals, one response refers to ‘loss of <br />local control’, while six responses identify “Not-In-My-Back-Yard” attitudes as an <br />impediment to housing solutions for the broader community (12 mentions). <br />• Other problems include: <br />o Parking, traffic and unsafe driving (17) <br />o Crime and policing (25) <br />o Public transportation (2) <br />o Senior Housing (8) <br />o Climate Change (8) <br />o Infrastructure (9) <br />o Population growth (7) <br />o Homelessness (21) <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
