Many renters have been priced out, evicted or displaced, particularly communities of color. <br />Residents finding themselves in one of these situations may have had to choose between <br />commuting long distances to their jobs and schools or moving out of the region, and sometimes, <br />out of the state. <br />It is more expensive to rent a home in Pleasanton than it is in Alameda County and the Bay Area. <br />Based on U.S. Census data, which often lags market valuations, the largest proportion of rental <br />units in Pleasanton rented in the $2,000-$2,500 per month category, totaling 28.0 percent, <br />followed by 21.7 percent of units renting in the $2,500-$3,000 per month category (see Figure A- <br />42).
