Nicole Rodriguez
From: Ellen Holmgren
Sent: Tuesday, January 24, 2023 2:28 PM
To: Lou Astbury; Mayor and City Council
Cc: Pleasanton City Clerk; Pamela Ott; Ellen Clark; Melinda Denis; Megan Campbell; Shweta
Bonn; Becky Hopkins
Subject: RE: Recent affordable housing controversy
Follow Up Flag: Follow up
Flag Status: Flagged
Dear Lou Astbury,
Thank you for your email regarding Item 2 on the Special Meeting Notice and Agenda for Thursday, Jan. 26,
2023.
This email acknowledges receipt of your email to the Mayor and City Council, the City Manager, and City staff.
Thank you for your interest in the City of Pleasanton.
Regards,
Ellen Holmgren, Administrative Assistant
City of Pleasanton
From: Lou Astbury
Sent:Tuesday,January 24, 2023 1:04 PM
To: Mayor and City Council<citycouncil@cityofpleasantonca.gov>
Subject: Recent affordable housing controversy
Dear Mayor Brown and honorable City Council Members,
It was informative to see Gerry Beaudin's letter to Superintendent Haglund that clears up the status
regarding more affordable housing in Pleasanton.
QUOTE
Specifically, we are working towards a citywide certified Housing Element, as required by State law.
We are just days away from the State's deadline to approve the Housing Element. The Council is not
in a position to consider specific development proposals or site plans during this process or we risk
delaying the objective we need to achieve.
UNQUOTE
The letter goes on to show that there will be a lot of effort going forward with respect to affordable
housing. Unfortunately it seems the recent issue raised regarding "Voting against a compromise
solution that would put PUSD on an economically viable path to achieve teacher workforce
housing..." is more about political posturing and, unfortunately, is VERY misleading. As a parent with
young adult children who want to achieve home ownership, I am 100% supportive of more affordable
housing, but this distraction is not helpful.
Thanks for your service and it is too bad that the Council has to deal with such unnecessary
distractions.
1
