One example is to support secure,
weather protected bicycle parking spaces at 1/unit in the Objective Design Standards to be discussed
at your January 26th meeting. Also require electric outlets to provide the ability to recharge e-
bikes. Lower income people need affordable transportation which can be a bicycle and then need a
secure place to store it. Also, encouraging bicycling for all residents reduces traffic and improves the
air quality in our valley for all of us.
Regarding the School district development proposal, given the need for affordable housing
everywhere in California, I am somewhat disappointed in the leadership in our community that seems
to continually favor as little as possible development of affordable housing in the community. A
recent example pertains to support the School District's proposed redevelopment of their properties at
Bernal and First St as well as on Vineyard Ave. at the densities they are requesting. I support their
proposal, which is a middle ground between what could be demanded, under AB2295, and what I
understand the City Council wants to request, which is greatly reduced density. The District needs to
be able to raise the funds needed to provide teacher housing and buy a school site property to reduce
overcrowding in our schools.
1
