• The mall should function as a central gathering space for the community
• The mall should be more outward-looking instead of solely focused on indoor
uses
• Development at the mall should be integrated into a cohesive-looking project, not
piecemeal projects by each owner
• Local-serving amenities should be considered
• State Density Bonus law should be considered when evaluating the number of
housing units at the mall
• The mall should be the next generation of"the place to go" in Pleasanton.
An introductory joint Planning Commission and community meeting was held on
September 26 to provide residents and business owners with an overview of the
Framework and request feedback on the type and location of desired land uses. In
addition, participants of the community meeting were asked to provide feedback on a
draft Framework goal statement:
Stoneridge Mall Framework, Draft Goal Statement
"To be a community destination, a vibrant mixed-use center with a variety of
retail, dining and activity that continues to be a strong economic contributor for
the City, and ...
... a new district which functions as an integrated, sustainable neighborhood,
is well-connected to and through the site for walking, biking, and transit, and
offers a range of high-quality public and private gathering spaces, open
space, and amenities."
Both the general public and members of the Planning Commission supported this draft
goal statement. Additional feedback from the September 26 meeting is summarized as
follows:
• Addition of local-serving amenities, like a grocery market, would be favorable
• Coordination and cooperation among the property owners will be imperative to a
successful outcome
• Desire for gathering spaces with the potential for entertainment and active uses
• Support for integration of the outdoors with the mall interior such that it is
outward-looking rather than solely an interior space
• Concerns about:
- traffic and pedestrian safety
- crime and public safety
- competition with downtown Pleasanton
- additional housing's impacts to schools, traffic, and overall community
character.
Based on this feedback staff and the professional services team have created
conceptual development scenarios to guide discussion about allocation of housing units
Page 5 of 17
