Objective Design Standards for Multifamily Housing in R-M, C-C, and M-U Zoning Districts <br />City of Pleasanton - 17 - December 14, 2022 - DRAFT <br /> <br /> <br />B6. Landscape <br />Landscape design should create an attractive setting for multifamily residential development but must balance <br />aesthetics with natural ecosystems and resource conservation. <br />Development Standards <br />All Sites <br />B6.1 All landscaped areas shall comply with the City of Pleasanton Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance <br />(WELO). <br />B6.2 All applicants shall qualify at the minimum threshold of the Bay Friendly (BF) scorecard. <br />B6.3 Landscape plans shall designate proposed plant species. Such species shall comply with the <br />following: <br />a. A minimum of 50 percent of tree specimens by quantity shall be from species classified as Low <br />or Very Low on the California state Water Use Classification of Landscape Species IV <br />(WUCOLS IV) Zone 1 plant list. <br />b. A minimum of 75 percent of shrub and ground cover specimens by quantity shall be from species <br />classified as Low or Very Low on the WUCOLS IV Zone 1 plant list. <br />B6.4 Where allowed by WELO, natural turf areas shall be limited to a minimum continuous dimension of <br />10 feet in all directions to ensure viability. <br />B6.5 A minimum six foot landscape buffer shall be provided between buildings and walkways and <br />between buildings and parking lots. <br /> <br /> <br />Design Guidelines <br />All Sites <br />B6.a Landscape plans should incorporate seasonal variety and color to the maximum extent feasible. <br />B6.b Tall deciduous trees should be utilized where summer shade is needed and winter solar access is <br />desired. <br />B6.c Grass planting areas outside of common open spaces should be limited to no more than five percent <br />of all planting area. <br />B6.d Stormwater treatment adjacent to walking surfaces should provide a ground surface within six inches <br />of sidewalk grade, or a six foot buffer strip at the grade of the walking surface <br />
