Provide input on how the remaining funds for the Meadowlark trail should be <br />spent <br /> <br />Landscape Architect Gruber provided a summary of the property; trail improvement funds; <br />trail project bids and award by City Council; neighbor objections; public outreach; and <br />further consideration and stoppage by the City Council. He summarized the projects <br />proposed for use of $50,000 including Augustin Bernal Mountain Bike Trail, Signalize <br />crosswalk at Foothill Road across from the Alviso Adobe, Callippe Preserve Trail signage <br />and conversion to a multi-use trail, and Old Vineyard Avenue Trail improvements. <br /> <br />Peter Miller suggested using the funds for water truck trail maintenance on the Augustin <br />Trail or biker safety education. <br /> <br />Member Neff asked about the EIR for the bike trail. Landscape Architect Gruber stated <br />the salamanders were not a concern on the bike trail. <br /> <br />Member Piekarski suggested consideration of the Alamo Canal Trail improvements. She <br />asked if any of the proposed projects would be fully funded. Landscape Architect Gruber <br />anticipated the Callippe Preserve Trail signage and conversion to a multi-use trail could <br />be completed. He explained project funds and Council allocation. <br /> <br />Member Piekarski asked the cost of the Foothill Road Crosswalk. City Engineer Tassano <br />estimated $150,000. Member Piekarski suggested the crosswalk come out of Traffic <br />Engineering budget. She asked how long the old Vineyard Trail to Shadow Cliffs had <br />been in the plans. Landscape Architect Gruber stated it was included in the specific plan <br />and most the trail had been constructed five or so years ago. He discussed studies to <br />connect the trail and anticipated $50,000 would cover a portion of the design only. <br /> <br />Member Houston stated he would not support Callippe Preserve Trail signage and <br />conversion to a multi-use trail. He stated he would vote for the Augustin Bernal Mountain <br />Bike Trail. <br /> <br />Member Henry stated he would also vote for the Augustin Bernal Trail. He discussed the <br />need to accommodate mountain bikes and bike safety education. <br /> <br />A BPTC member indicated support for the Augustin Bernal Trail. <br /> <br />A BPTC member suggested cleaning up the Callippe Preserve Trail due to limited funds. <br />Landscape Architect Gruber discussed the planned development that would help solve <br />some issues on the trail. He stated $50,000 seemed close to the amount needed for the <br />project. <br /> <br />A BPTC member indicated support for the Callippe Trail. <br /> <br />Members Piekarski and Nibert and Chair Fields indicated support for cleaning up Callippe <br />Trail.
