7. Drainage and parking lot
Various changes to the plans were required to improve drainage and prevent
property owner concerns about flooding onto adjacent private properties located at
164 Main Street, 234 Main Street, 260 Main Street, and 288 Main Street.
Estimated cost $38,460.
8. Actual guantities compared to estimated quantities
The quantity for the Class 2 aggregate base within the parking lot was
underestimated in the bid documents by 280 tons due to an incorrectly assumed
unit weight for the aggregate base. The architectural brick treatment for the
retaining wall was underestimated by 1,175 square feet in the bid documents
because it only included the trail -side face of the wall and not the top of the wall and
the parking lot side of the wall. A total area of 2,175 square feet was installed. Due
to increases in material costs and labor, the contract price was adjusted.
Estimated Cost $95,415.09
9. Civic Park improvements
The Civic Park improvements will implement the major components of the Civic Park
Landscape Renovation Plans with the remaining work to be completed with the
First/Bernal/Sunol Intersection Project. The improvements will include grading and
adding four large red oak trees and two medium-sized Frontier elm trees to replace
the four mature elm trees that were removed. A new picnic table will be located
underneath the shade of an existing box elder tree. Additionally, the Civic Park sign
will be relocated closer to the Centennial Towers Plaza, the parkway planting strip
on Main Street will receive new plants, and a portion of the east side of the park will
be converted to flowering shrubs and groundcover (to complement the
improvements for the Transportation Corridor Project). The irrigation system will be
upgraded to properly water the park renovation features and avoid overspray onto
the plaza and include a stub out for future improvements. The turf will be replaced as
necessary due to the damage done during the tree removal.
Estimated cost: $110,000
Consultant Services
1. HMH En ineers
The project designer has exceeded their construction support budget due to
numerous RFIs, additional shop drawing reviews, preparation of multiple conformed
documents, onsite meetings with the contractor, redesign of the EV charger area to
accommodate an ADA path of travel and redesign of the parking lots at 252, 260
and 288 Main Street to address drainage and the owners' concerns. Additionally,
HMH was asked to design the Civic Park improvements to be implemented with the
project. The designer has already provided the services to limit delays to the project.
Staff recommends approving the fourth amendment to the agreement for $51,500
which includes work completed to date and budget to address unforeseen conditions
and future RFIs associated with Phase 2 of the project and Civic Park
improvements. The scope of services and fee proposal for HMH is presented in
Attachment 4.
