The game of Cricket uses a hard ball. Though some people think it will not go that far,
it will go far enough to hit and injure people that are using the park. The balls can also go into
the street and hit pedestrians and cars—not to mention hitting dogs and going over the sound
wall to the freeway. Muirwood is a long, narrow park. It was never meant for a permanent
sports field of any kind. and it should remain that way. I am not sure what the politics of this
decision were, but it seems like the people who live here were not very well informed, and that
this was just being pushed through.
When I attended the "feedback session" today at Patelco, Michelle from Park and Rec
said that Muirwood park got very little use during the day, during the week. That is true. but
that is not when the Cricket games and practices would occur. They would happen when
everyone in the neighborhood wants to use it—late afternoons and weekends_ Additionally,
she said that only kids 11 and under would be playing Cricket there. Well—who is going to
enforce that? Once people know there is a Cricket Field at Muirwood, they will come, and
they won't be just local kids under 11. Be realistic!
Muirwood Park is not the right place for this. Just because you can do it fast and easy
doesn't make it right. It would be the worst decision I have ever seen from the Pleasanton City
Council.
Very sincerely,
C thia Shon
Click hfrt to report this email as spam.
