Dear Mayor and Council Members
As a resident near Muirwood Park, I'm writing in opposition to the proposed cricket pitch being placed
there.
We first have to consider the safety issues associated with this. The park is narrow and, given the size of
the park, the change for errant balls to hit people and property is significant. Add in the lack of a parking
lot and you have the safety issues of driving down Muirwood Drive. During the soccer and football
practices, cars are lined up along both sides of the street (as well as all the nearby side streets) and I end
up having to drive 5mph along that stretch due to people opening doors without looking, people exiting
and getting in to their cars without, looking, and children darting out from between the parked cars
without looking. Once cars are parked along both sides of the street, it becomes a narrow street.
The residents of this area have no ability to host guests for anything when there is no parking near their
homes. We pay a huge amount for the privilege of living in Pleasanton and should be able to host
gatherings at our homes without guests having to park a considerable distance from the home.
The residents of this area have a right to enjoy THEIR community's park but having it consumed by a
cricket pitch will make it impossible to have gatherings there and even make it difficult to enjoy it with
their families. It will also impact the ability for accessing the dog park along the sound wall with
congestion within the park and, again, the errant balls.
This park is already in use during the week for sports practice and losing the park on the weekend is
unreasonable given the amount of the park that will be taken away. This is a large community and we
need more than a small corner on the far end to be able to enjoy it. Cricket matches run for a long
stretch of time and will take the weekends away when working families with school aged children
should be able to enjoy full use of the park.
We have large parks in this city with parking lots—that's where the Cricket Pitch should be placed.
People are not going to walk to the park to play these matches — it will be people from all over the area
that will drive there, take up all the street parking and the park itself.
There is a lot of misleading information being spread that pushes the agenda which is not what our city
should be in the business of doing. Our elected officials have a responsibility to be honest with the
residents and not put personal agendas.
After reviewing the following, I see many issues with the information being put out there:
#1 Space required between a near team and long-term solutions are different. How can that be when
the game's field is what it is? And, near term? None of the residents around here believe that, once it is
placed, it would be moved at a later time.
# 2 The area being stated is far smaller than is required. An area of 204 to 225 feet is required not the
180 -foot radius stated. And, if the balls can travel up to 765 feet, the potential from property damage is
significant. Is Pleasanton ready to subsidize that? And, with what money? The funds received from the
resident who suffered the damage via taxes they pay? This is a huge liability situation and I sure don't
want my taxes going to increased insurance premiums due to the number of claims.
