Hello Eric,
We have lived on the corner of Neal St and Second St diagonally across from the Lighthouse Baptist Church for 48 years We do not support the proposal
to add a school on this site We didn't support a similar plan proposed about 10 years ago that was rejected by the Planning Commission then Our concerns
are with parking,traffic,safety,and compliance
The small loading area in front of the church has only 2 spaces The plan calls for staff to park in a different church lot 1/2 mile away and walk to the Neal
St site This is not realistic, especially in inclement weather, nor for a variety of other reasons-teachers running late because of traffic, instructional
materials to carry to a classroom, etc Thus,it would require us and surrounding neighbors to monitor their compliance constantly
Parents picking up and dropping off would have to wait for other cars to move into traffic on Neal St,causing them to line up on Second St Currently the
space next to the church on Second St is filled with a commercially licensed bus(which illegally parks there)and a large van
Parking issues on Second and Neal Streets are worse than when the last proposal was rejected We deal with parking from the church already twice on
Sundays,Wednesday nights, and often on Saturdays and other evenings for meetings If it became a school site that would mean we'd have more parking,
congestion,and traffic issues 6-7 days a week!
Overflow parking for staff and visitors of Generations Healthcare currently park daily near the church in spaces on both sides of the second block of Neal
St Neighbors on the NE cornier of Neal and Second have 4 drivers and 4 cars parked in front or next to their house They often need to park next to our
house making it difficult to sweep the curb, put out garbage cans often preventing city street sweepers and leaf removal vehicles from cleaning the glitters
Leaves regularly backup in the sewer it's the same situation on the southwest corner
Traffic congestion and the speed of cars traveling in both directions on Neal St is already a safety problem in the morning, afternoon and evening The first
block of Neal St is unsafe for adults and even more so for children to cross by themselves If parents have to park to walk their kids across the street, they
would violate the conditions of the CUP by parking in the neighborhood
If the church goes beyond the maximum number of students and parents, volunteers and staff would park in the shrinking spots available Again,we
neighbors would have to be the monitors for compliance
The church has been a good neighbor but we think the school goes too far in asking the neighborhood to put up with more traffic and more of everything
this proposal would bring
Best,
Christine and Brian Bourg
