Dear Pleasanton Planning Commission,
I want to give you a different perspective as to why you should approve the application for
the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church to build a new sanctuary in Pleasanton.
I have been a Pleasanton resident for 25 years and a member of the Resurrection Greek
Orthodox Church for 20 years. I am fortunate to be the current Co -Chair for one of the
important ministries of the Church, "Feeding the 5,000 Project Food Pantry." Resurrection
Greek Orthodox Church partners with the Alameda County Community Food Bank and
distributes food to those in need in the spirit of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Resurrection
Food Pantry is a tremendous opportunity for practicing Christian love, generosity, and
compassion toward those in need. It raises awareness about hunger and allows the opportunity
for residents, families, schools, businesses, and community organizations to come together to
make a difference.
This is just an example, one of many, why the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church will be such
an asset to the community. The food pantry ministry could be an intrinsic part of Pleasanton's
social services network. Amid affluence and wealth, there are people in Pleasanton and the Tri -
Valley that may benefit from what the Church offers. During this past year, as cities battle
COVID-19, food pantries have been an essential tool for combating food
insecurity. Resurrection's food pantry has risen to the challenge by continuing to provide food
to support families experiencing hardship because of the pandemic. Resurrection is there for all
of us and is open to partnering with the Pleasanton community to find innovative ways to
serve.
Please support our efforts to bring this ministry and Church to Pleasanton.
Sincerely,
Nora Chopelas
Pleasanton, CA 94566
[MING TK 5000 PROJECT
