2324 Santa Rita Road at the corner of Santa Rita Road and Mohr Avenue consists of
medical office tenants and is primarily used Monday through Friday. This would allow
the parking lot to be used as an alternative parking solution for future events held at the
Century House. The site currently has 145 parking spaces, and the walking distance is
approximately 600 feet from the corner of Santa Rita/Mohr, across Santa Rita Road, to
the pedestrian entrance to the Century House property, as shown in Figure 2 below. It is
assumed that only the spaces nearest to Mohr Avenue and the crosswalk across Santa
Rita Road would be used for this purpose. This option would work in conjunction with
the pick-up and drop-off area described above in Option 7.
Fi•ure 2: Walkin• Distance to Centu House d
111
,4 b a 4 4fi t .Mr` s ••, _ N:
t > * •
t •:.:. . ,, ** ,,' ‘,1'..:-.411ftiump: . !•' \k
., ,r2,„1"%, ,:,_ , -. r:71it 234® ?,
.4.4:4 ''''.::11
1.
4 +
-3g
' c . i
lj
y i"
A.
T4E7 r ,
Staff also explored the use of the new Carpenters Training Center parking lot across the
street from the Century House, however, the Carpenters Training Center regularly holds
weekend classes, specifically all-day Saturday training classes. The temptation for
Century House guests to jaywalk mid-block on Santa Rita Road is also considered to be
an unacceptable safety hazard.
Another offsite option would be to provide a pedestrian path from Tanager Drive across
the park to a gate in the existing rear fence of the Century House, allowing guests to
park on Tanager Drive during events. This option has only been briefly discussed with
neighbors and has not previously been presented to the PRC.
Relocation Option
Another consideration that has been raised in discussions about the project is the
potential for moving the structure to another location such as the Community Farm site
in Bernal Park. While moving historic buildings has challenges and costs, it is not
uncommon and is usually feasible. This option would require additional study and
community discussion related to the potential new site for the building as well as what to
Page 7 of 9
