Public Comments
P20-0412 Amenclntcnts to Pleasanton Municipal Code for uccessori £10 citing units
From:Tony Bridenbaugh
Sent: Friday,January 22,2021 3:08 PM
To:Mayor and City Council
Subject:Second Story ADUs
City Council,
I watched a recording of the 1/19 city council meeting last night and was shocked to witness the voting
for a ban on second story ADUs. I'm not sure that this decision meets the spirit and intent of the recent
laws California passed to promote the development of ADUs to combat our severe housing crisis.
ADUs could allow our elders to age gracefully surrounded by family members or our children to save
money on college housing. There must be some middle ground that doesn't result in an outright ban of
traditional ADUs. Perhaps being able to apply for a special waiver to the height restriction will allow the
city to maintain control over designs.
I am a proud Pleasanton homeowner who was excited about the new laws and have unfortunately
already spent thousands on professional designs. I'd be happy to offer up my project as an example of
how to do a proper 2nd story ADU in Pleasanton.
Thanks so much for all you do,
Anthony Bridenbaugh
4
