Pleasanton Police Department
Pleasanton PD Policy Manual
Body Worn Camera Systems
4) Docking their assigned BWCS at the docking station for automated upload of data files
daily, at the end of each shift.
5) Use of the BWCS shall be documented in all reports or other official records of any
contact, including when the device was not used and the reasons for not using it, whether
it was deactivated and why, and if it malfunctioned in any manner. Reporting requirements
shall continue to be followed and "refer to video" should not be used in place of a detailed and
thorough report of an incident.
6) When members capture BWCS recordings that could reasonably constitute evidence in
a criminal case they shall identify the BWCS files in the database by:
a. Noting the Pleasanton Police Department incident number in the Case ID Field.
b. Entering a title. The title should include sufficient information to identify the file, such
as crime code, suspect name, location, and event.
C. Selecting the appropriate category(s) in the drop down menu. (If there is evidence
on the recording, this step is especially crucial to maintain the recording in the database
for the appropriate retention period.)
d. The information may be entered via department issued smart phone, Mobile Data
Computer, or computer workstation.
e. Document in the related police report, citation, or Field interview card that potential
BWCS evidence exists and was downloaded into the online cloud database which is
managed by a third party.
7) BWCS recordings placed into the database shall be retained through the final disposition
of the related criminal case.
8) In certain criminal or administrative investigations, a copy of the BWCS recording may
be made by the assigned investigator and/or Property & Evidence personnel to accompany
the investigation.
Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2020/09/22, All Rights Reserved.
