Pleasanton Police Department <br />Pleasanton PD Policy Manual <br />Body Worn Camera Systems <br />450.4 MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES <br />The following responsibilities shall be delegated to members in the following assignments: <br />a) The Personnel and Training Supervisor shall be responsible for resolving equipment <br />malfunctions and/or reporting any deficiencies to the manufacturer for repair; issuing and tracking <br />BWCS equipment to members, and coordinating with Information Technology regarding system/ <br />equipment related issues. <br />b) Custodian of Records shall be responsible for ensuring that BWCS recordings are retained, <br />reviewed and released in accordance with federal, state, and local statutes and the City of <br />Pleasanton and Pleasanton Police Department retention policies; and aiding in the requests to <br />reproduce and/or copy BWCS recordings. <br />c) Property & Evidence Personnel shall be responsible for producing and distributing copies of <br />BWCS recordings upon request pursuant to this policy. <br />d) The Program Manager shall have overall management responsibility of the BWCS system to <br />include: providing training to sworn members; preparing regular system evaluations; conducting <br />regular policy review; and coordinating with IT, Operations, Facilities, and Equipment, Custodian <br />of Records, and all other members regarding system/equipment related issues. <br />e) Supervisors shall be responsible for notifying Personnel and Training and the Program <br />Manager, stating the problem or malfunction. If the Program Manager is not available, the <br />supervisor shall notify the on -duty Watch Commander. Supervisors shall not view the BWCS <br />recordings without cause, however, supervisors may conduct periodic audits of the BWCS <br />recordings to verify adherence to this policy and for future training purposes. Supervisors may <br />also review BWCS recordings for purposes such as following up on criminal and/or administrative <br />investigations. During such review supervisors may identify recordings which are appropriate for <br />training purposes. Division Commander authorization is required prior to the release of BWCS <br />recordings for training purposes. <br />f) Member Responsibility <br />Members who are assigned a BWCS are responsible for the following: <br />1) Ensuring the battery is fully charged and operating properly prior to going in the field during <br />any shift in which the BWCS will be used. <br />2) Immediately reporting unresolved equipment malfunctions or problems to their supervisor. <br />3) Securing the Axon Flex camera to the head or shoulder area or the Axon Body camera to <br />the front of the uniform shirt to facilitate optimum recording of the field of view. <br />Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2020/09/22, All Rights Reserved.
