Luhdorff & Scalmanini
Consulting Engineers
July 22, 2020
LSCE No. 20-2-099
Mr. Darren Baune, PE
Carollo Engineers
2795 Mitchell Drive
Walnut Creek, California 94598
SUBJECT: SCOPE AND BUDGET FOR HYDROGEOLOGICAL SERVICES TO SUPPORT
CITY OF PLEASANTON'S WELL 5, 6 & 8 WELL REHABILIATION PROJECTS
Dear Mr. Baune:
Luhdorff and Scalmanini Consulting Engineers (LSCE) is pleased to submit this scope defining engineering
services to provide assistance on the City of Pleasanton's (City) Well 5, 6 and 8 Well Rehabilitation and
PFAS Treatment Project (Project). LSCE has been helping the City with well related projects since 1991,
and we are currently reviewing LSCE records from previous work specific to Wells 5, 6 and 8. A
summary of previous work completed by LSCE is included in Table 1.
BACKGROUND
Well 5 — Carollo assisted the City in analysis of the Well 5 pump failure in early 2020. Part of the analysis
included review of video inspection of the casing and hydraulic performance of the Well 5 pump. Carollo
determined that minor repairs and cleaning to the casing was recommended as part of this Project. The
pump meets current demands but is underperforming (producing less flow than the factory pump curve
would suggest). The City plans to perform additional testing to validate the pumping capacity once the
well is put back in service.
Well 6 —The Water Quality evaluation identified that the pump is beyond its useful life and requires
replacement. The Well 6 casing has not been inspected sense installation and the City prefers to inspect
the condition of the casing.
500 First Street (530) 661-0109
Woodland, CA 95776 www.lsce.com
