BACKGROUND
SSPTV was established in 1981 and was formerly a service of Valley Community
Health Center. In 2006, the SSPTV became its own non-profit organization. The SSPTV
mission is to deliver free, comprehensive services and assistance to seniors aged 60
and older in the Tri-Valley to foster independence, promote well-being, preserve dignity,
and improve quality of life. SSPTV operates Monday through Friday at the Pleasanton
Senior Center. (Due to COVID-19, SSPTV is currently operating remotely).
Since 2000, the City has contracted with SSTPV to provide a variety of health and
social services such as: alcohol and drug programs, case management services, family
caregiver support, wellness programs, health screenings, in-home caregiver registry, in-
home counseling, nutrition education, fitness programs, a senior transportation
program, and a community connection program.
The SSPTV office is located at the Pleasanton Senior Center and compliments the
services already provided to Pleasanton seniors by the Library and Recreation
Department, adding efficiency and convenience for Pleasanton Seniors and their
families.
DISCUSSION
The current Services Agreement with SSPTV expires on June 30, 2020. In anticipation
of that expiration, the City contacted the Cities of Dublin, Livermore, San Ramon and
the Alameda County Area Agency on Aging to identify other vendors that could offer the
range of services currently provided by SSPTV. Dublin and Livermore use the services
of SSPTV, San Ramon uses a variety of service providers to accomplish the range of
services provided by SSPTV, and Alameda County Area Agency on Aging did not return
three attempted phone calls. The outreach conducted identified that there is no other
organization like SSPTV in the Tri-Valley that offers all the services of SSPTV. SSPTV
has served Pleasanton senior citizens well, offering additional wrap-around services
that a city-based senior center model does not provide.
A continued Agreement for Services with SSPTV will address and meet the following
needs as prioritized in the Human Services Needs Assessment - Strategic Plan:
Disability Services and Access, Food and Nutrition, Health Care and Senior Services.
SSPTV currently offers the following program and services:
Alcohol and Drug Program — case management, counseling, community education
and support groups
Case Management Services — support for the individual needs of seniors who are able
to maintain an independent lifestyle
Family Caregiver Support— case management and support groups for persons
responsible for the care of a loved one
