the work has the potential to cause significant traffic delays. The existing water line in
Santa Rita Road will have expansion fittings installed on both sides of the bridge to
allow for movement within the approach slab area.
The preventative maintenance at each bridge generally includes methacrylate deck
treatments, replacing joint seals, repairing concrete spalls, epoxy grout into cracks and
other voids. Methacrylate is a concrete deck sealant which decreases the overall
permeability of concrete, sealing and filling cracks to prevent the direct intrusion of
water that causes deterioration of the concrete bridge deck. Joint seals that allow for
expansion and contraction of the bridge are replaced where sections of the bridge meet
each other and/or the roadway. Concrete spall repairs remove corroded concrete from
around reinforcement steel and replace it with new concrete to protect the reinforcement
steel. Epoxy grout injection will place epoxy under high pressure into existing cracks
and other voids to also protect reinforcement steel and prevent corrosion.
The work at each bridge is described further below (see Attachment 4 for location map):
1) Santa Rita Road Bridge at Arroyo Mocho (Br No. 33C-0099)
The scope of work for this bridge includes: adding approach slabs; installing
expansion fittings on the existing water line; removing existing AC on existing
bridge deck; methacrylate deck treatment; repaving the roadway surface over the
bridge; adding joint seals at Abutments 1 and 3; repairing spalls on bridge deck,
the soffit, and concrete barrier rail; replacing a portion of the concrete barrier and
tubular hand railing; restriping roadway; and reconstructing mortar base at
bottom of chain link fence posts.
2) Case Avenue Bridge at Mission Creek (Br No. 33C-0453)
The scope of work for this bridge includes: methacrylate deck treatment;
removing and replacing existing expansion joint seals at Abutments 1 and 2;
repairing unsound grout at railing post pockets; and repairing spalls on concrete
barriers, deck, soffit, and abutments.
3) Laurel Creek Drive Bridge at Laurel Creek (Br No. 33C-0454)
The scope of work for this bridge includes: methacrylate deck treatment;
repairing spalls on concrete barrier rail and bridge deck; replacing existing
expansion joint seals at Abutments 1 and 4; and reinstalling architectural
treatment on the barriers.
4) West Las Positas Boulevard Bridge at G-3 Channel (Br No. 33C-0461)
The scope of work for this bridge includes epoxy injection of cracks and repairing
spalls in the culvert cells.
5) Owens Drive Bridge at Chabot Channel (Br No. 33C-0462)
The scope of work for this bridge includes epoxy injection of cracks and repairing
spalls in the culvert cells.
Page 3 of 5
