Commissioner Prakash was provided information about focus and topics of the workshops and
the number of anticipated attendees. Ms. Dulka indicated that Hively will limit attendance to 75
attendees and hopes to have at least 40 people attend each workshop. She informed
Chairperson Jain that funds would be used to facilitate the workshops.
Commissioner Chew questioned how the community would learn about the workshops and Ms.
Dulka advised it would be through word-of-mouth, newsletters, E-newsletters, social media, etc.
Commissioners Mokashi and Prakash were advised that workshops would be for both teens and
parents.
Go Green Initiative / Pleasanton Students Promote Water Conservation — commissioners were
provided a copy of the 2019 Summer Internship brochure that provided information about the
program and also reviewed a PowerPoint presentation. It was noted that in 2019 Go Green
Initiative hired 33 high school and college level interns to benchmark energy use of the 15
Pleasanton school campuses and the 24 city-owned facilities.
Commissioners were advised that as part of the 2019 program, interns used public
transportation to take field trips to Oracle's Pleasanton campus and the Dublin San Ramon
Water Services District to obtain information on how technology is being used to manage the
energy functions of buildings and how wastewater byproducts can be further used to create
electricity.
Information was provided to the commission about the Go Green Initiative's partnership with
Zone 7, a documentary being made that will include interviews with Pleasanton residents, and
how the internship program aligns with the Youth Master Plan, the Pleasanton Climate Action
Plan and the City of Pleasanton's General Plan.
Commissioner Prakash was provided information on how Go Green has been successful in
breaking down barriers and getting people to work together, Go Green's partnerships, and how
funding last year allowed the organization to pay $12/hr. to some of the interns in 2019.
Commissioners were also provided details on research that is done by Go Green to determine
topics and work to be done by volunteers and interns. They were also advised that the Go
Green intern program is promoted through social medial, Ptownlife, Pleasanton Weekly, etc.
Valley Children's Museum / Play Based STEAM Programming — Tiffany Pulanco — advised that
funding is being sought to help support their mission to offer Play Based STEAM Programming
for children 0-12 years of age so they can explore science, math and engineering concepts.
Funds would be used to continue offering the program in conjunction with the Thursday Dublin
Farmer's Market and a one Saturday per month program.
Youth Commission Minutes
March 11,2020
Page 2
