4.1 Exterior Walls: <br />• Encouraged: <br />Cement plaster, stone or brick masonry, cast concrete, shaped plaster, and tile. <br />Dimensional lumber siding is allowed but requires adequate painting, staining, <br />preservation and maintenance to insure against uneven weathering or severe <br />checking and/or splitting. Synthetic materials made from recycled product, <br />e.g., Hardi-Plank cementitious board siding are encouraged if a high quality <br />appearance is achieved. Sheet siding such as plywood or masonite may be al- <br />lowed, but must be used in conjunction with sufficient masonry and trim ac- <br />cents to maintain an overall high quality appearance. <br />Discouraged: <br />False fiber board stucco, metal siding, vinyl siding, unfinished wood, exposed <br />plain concrete block, and flat sheet siding such as plywood or masonite. <br />4.2 Roofs: <br />Encouraged: <br />Barrel and flat terra cotta clay tile, flat integral color concrete tile, slate, and <br />high quality composition shingles. <br />• Discouraged: <br />Sheet roofing, metal roofing, synthetic wood shakes or shingles, high glazed <br />clay the or glossy painted concrete tile, or fiberglass or hard-board shingles. <br />4.3 Windows and Skylights: <br />• Encouraged: <br />Clear or tinted glass, dark anodized or painted frames, wood frames, flat clear <br />or tinted skylights integrated into the building architecture and with frames that <br />blend with the roof, and multi-paned windows used on all sides of the struc- <br />ture. <br />• Discouraged: <br />Reflective glazing and clear anodized, mill-finished aluminum frames, or <br />"bubble" skylights. <br />4.4 Colors: <br />The structure's color scheme should be compatible with but should not duplicate <br />the color schemes used on adjacent homes. <br />• Encouraged: <br />Warm-toned colors. <br />Pa e 4 0 8 per Planning Commission: June 2$ 2003 <br />PUD-27,DesignGuidelines 8 f <br />
