• We updated our brochure series— Dining Guide, Shopping Guide, Arts & Entertainment and
Salons & Spas. The new brochures include updated photos of downtown.
• Sent our monthly e-newsletter for members and non-members.
• Created opportunities for business networking with three membership mixers in February and
July (partnering with the Chamber of Commerce).
• Held the PDA Installation Mixer at the Cellar Door; highlights included installation of the 2019
Board of Directors by Mayor Thorne, and recognition of the departing directors.
• Continued a proactive approach toward downtown vacancies by maintaining an inventory of
potential tenants, assisting property owners in listing available properties and working with the
city's Economic Development Director. Met with property owners, tenants, potential tenants
and commercial agents.
• Continued to work with the City to support the efforts underway as a result of the Parking Study
and Implementation Plan and continue to address the ongoing need for parking stock
management and growth throughout our downtown. We will continue these efforts by working
with community members with a common goal to address parking on the Downtown Parking
Collaboration Committee.
• Continue to work closely with the City of Pleasanton's Economic Development Department,
Economic Vitality Committee and other key stakeholders to develop and encourage more 1st
floor retail in Downtown, with a primary focus on Main Street. Research and evaluate possible
options to employ incentive/disincentive strategies to encourage a healthy retail mix.
• Sent over 65 press releases that were picked up by numerous media outlets throughout the Bay
Area.
• Continued to increase strategic alliances and collaborate with community Partners: Pleasanton
Chamber of Commerce, Livermore Downtown Association, Firehouse Arts Center, Pleasanton
Cultural Arts Foundation,Valley Humane Society, the Museum, the Library, Pleasanton Heritage
Association, Alameda County Fairgrounds, Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association, Tri-Valley
Conservancy and Visit Tri-Valley.
• We proudly represented Pleasanton at the National Main Street Conference in March of 2019.
• Received commendation for program achievements and recognized as both a California and
National 2019 Main Street Community.
• Received recognition for the downtown district as"2019 Best of..." awards by the Pleasanton
Weekly.
BUDGET
The 2020 budgeted assessment revenue and City matching funds are projected to be $150,000.This
amount is the same as projected in 2019.There are no proposed changes to the assessment formula. In
late 2014 the City and the PDA entered into a five-year agreement, whereby the City agrees to match
the annual assessment revenue generated by the businesses within the downtown district. The City is
currently working to update this agreement with another five-year agreement. The annual assessment
and City matching funds represent approximately 32%of the total 2020 proposed budget and event
revenue comprises 52%of the budgeted revenues (does not include reserves & appropriated funds). The
Board believes it is prudent to build a minimum reserve of$40,000 for 2020 due to: (1)the economic
forecasts for the upcoming year; and (2) a significant portion of the budget is dependent on the success
of events which is contingent on weather. The budget includes a full-time Executive Director, a full-time
Events & Marketing Manager and a part-time Office Manager. Insurance expense includes bonding,
general liability, workers compensation, event/liquor liability, Employment Practices and Board of
Director's Omissions and Errors coverage.
3
