<br /> The applicant proposes to remove two Heritage-sized Valley Oak trees that currently sit within
<br /> the designated building envelope and would impede the proposed siting and construction of
<br /> the proposed residence. The two trees (Nos. 33 and 36 in the attached arborist report — Exhibit
<br /> C) are both Valley Oak trees in good health and measure 32 and 25 inches in diameter,
<br /> respectively. The two trees have a combined estimated value of$35,500. The PUD indicates
<br /> that the placement of structures will be reviewed with respect to tree preservation with the
<br /> design review application for each site. For trees that are allowed to be removed, the PUD
<br /> requires that: (1) three, 24-inch box-size native tree species be planted for each Heritage tree
<br /> to be removed; and (2) payment into the City's Urban Forestry Fund in the amount not to
<br /> exceed the estimated value of the trees to be removed.
<br /> Staff supports the removal of these two trees based on the analysis provided above related to
<br /> siting of the proposed residence and the reduction of grading and overall site disturbance
<br /> related to the proposed driveway location. Beyond this, the applicant has made an effort to
<br /> retain all other existing trees on site as seen in the Arborist Report attached as Exhibit C.
<br /> Additionally, the landscape plan includes planting approximately 37, 24-inch box-sized trees in
<br /> addition to other shrubs and ground cover. The proposed landscaping, once mature, will soften
<br /> the mass of the proposed residence and provide a landscape buffer to help screen the
<br /> proposed residence from Foothill Road. The City's Landscape Architecture Division has
<br /> reviewed the proposed plans and supports the proposed tree removal and mitigation.
