Mr. Gibson provided details about the pilot programs, planning of curriculum, creating <br />volunteers, training of library staff, and ultimate goals. He then reviewed with Commissioners <br />how_ the robots operate and Commissioners spent time working with Mr. Gibson and -operating <br />the robots. Mr. Gibson noted that the main goal of programs using the robots is to teach <br />children aspects of computer coding and middle -school students think these robots are `cool'. <br />Commissioners thanked Mr. Gibson for his presentation and allowing them to "play with the <br />robots. Chairperson Hertle discussed with.Mr. Gibson future plans for upgrading the robots. <br />5. Review and Discuss Quarterly Department Report for January -March 2019 <br />Ms. Murphy discussed the January -March 2019 Quarterly Department. Report with <br />Commissioners!, I She commented on the implementation of twelve (12) new programs, over <br />60 active community and business partnerships, and the total of 55,649 participants across all <br />department programs. Additionally, she provided information about the Sensory Storytime for <br />children with AS,D, the CIP Learning database for Spanish speakers, and Robots on the Loose! <br />Robotics and Coding for Kids. <br />Chairperson Hertle discussed with Ms. Murphy a recent email regarding text messaging and <br />use of the library card. <br />Ms. Murphy commented on the 146,642 visitors to the library during the quarter and further <br />advised Commissioners that the quarterly report would continue to be improved. <br />Commissioner Nibert asked about distribution of the report and was advised by Ms. Murphy <br />that after a couple of updates it will go out to the public. <br />r <br />Commissioner Skowlund questioned what affects might be anticipated with the changes in <br />staff member numbers because of retirements. Ms. Murphy advised that more staff would be <br />hired and programs would continue. <br />Commissioner Sabatini discussed with Ms. Murphy staff member concerns that have been <br />raised by several people. Ms. Murphy advised that the number of staff members are the same <br />and any future concerns could be brought to her outside.of commission meetings. <br />Chairperson Hertle felt the report was appealing and indicated she liked the direction it was <br />moving, especially to be provided on a quarterly basis. <br />Commissioner Grewel commented on a recent report- he had. received and questioned <br />customer satisfaction numbers that he felt were on the high side.
