Commissioner Deckert indicated that he had attended the public outreach meeting and
had agreed with many of the comments that had been made. Mr. Gruber noted that staff
had also received a number of email comments from members of the community.
Commissioner Deckert asked'Mr. Gruber how information from this meeting would be
shared with members of the neighborhood. Mr. Gruber advised that staff would share
information but that members of the .community attending this meeting would likely share
the information with their neighbors.
Chairperson Bowers opened the meeting for public comment.
Nancy Mullins - a s a day care provided she indicated that she is excited about being
able to take kids to the tot lot and especially now having it close to the restroom. She
thinks this is a really good tot lot and especially likes that it will have some covering to
protect the kids from the sun. She suggested that perhaps some seating also be
included.
Connie'Cox — thanked the City of Pleasanton and Ponderosa Homes for providing this
nice amenity to the neighborhood. There are many children in Valley Trails and the
community looks forward to seeing children enjoying this tot lot for many years.
Ms. Cox advised she has been one of the leaders for Valley Trails HOS and has spoken
to the Parks ,& Recreation Commission several times over the years and the they have
been willing to work with the HOA on a number of projects. She was surprised that this
project was not brought to them in the beginning to get their ideas and
recommendations, and not brought to them until after the project had been designed.
She felt this was wrong and hoped that all future projects in the area would.be brought to
the local community first so their thoughts and recommendations could be considered.
Ms.- Cox indicated that she liked the project and did not want to see. it delayed.
Ed Broome — talked about the issue of the bathroom and the location of the tot lot as had
originally been presented to the community and thanked city staff for listening to their .
comments and being willing to make the changes. Mr. Broome was pleased with the
Concept Plan for the Valley Trails Tot Lot.
Chairperson Bowers closed the meeting for public comment.
Chairperson Bowers felt staff had provided a good report and had listened to and made
the changes recommended by members of the community.
Commissioner Hottle asked. whether bench seats could be included in the playground,
especially near the tot.lot area. Mr. Gruber advised that benches could be added and
thought that there was sufficient funding available for them to be included.
P.arks.and Recreation Commission
May 9, 2019
Page 5
