Girl Scout Ava Lamberson and Jessica Hui provided information about their Girl Scout project <br />with Tri Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR). They talked about the 6.5 million animals that enter <br />animal shelters in the US each year and the 3.2 million that are adopted each year. They <br />advised that the goal of NAR is to give animals a second chance and help them find <br />permanent and loving homes. <br />Ava and Jessica advised that TVAR's mission is to "end the unnecessary euthanization of <br />homeless animals" and works with other shelters and rescue groups to provide these animals <br />with socialization, foster homes, medical care, and an opportunity for the second chance. <br />They talked about the lack of awareness regarding the -option .to foster animals and the <br />solution being to increase community awareness about the problems and create a local foster <br />family awareness campaign. <br />Commissioners were provided additional information by Ava and Jessica about the medical <br />benefits to individuals who decide to foster an animal. <br />Vice Chairperson Sedlak thanked Eva and Jessica for their presentation and wished them well <br />with their Girl Scout project. <br />MATTERS BEFORE THE COMMISSION <br />4. New Commissioner Welcome <br />Mr. Ingram advised that since the commission was welcoming three new commissioners he <br />thought it would be beneficial to learn something about each of them and then have current <br />members of the commissionprovide a little something about themselves and what they. have <br />found interesting being a member of the Human Services Commission. <br />Commissioner Gohil advised that he had trained in family medicine and worked at Kaiser in <br />Fremont. He commented on his experience as a member of the Economic Vitality Committee <br />and. indicated he is looking forward to working with the Human Services Commission. <br />Commissioner Powers stated she has lived in Pleasanton since 1992 and used to work with <br />Commissioner Carlucci at Valley Care Hospital. <br />Commissioner Lem advised that she is finishing her freshman year at Foothill High School and <br />was active on the Volleyball team but has recently decided to pursue other things. <br />Vice Chairperson Sedlak informed everyone that he has been a member of the Human <br />Services Commission for three or four years but has prior experience as a member of the <br />Parks and Recreation and Planning Commissions. He felt the Human Services Commission <br />.was an interesting commission to be a member of because it is fairly low.profile and works as <br />an advisory group to. City Council.
