Louise Strauch — is a Master Gardener who supports the Bernal Community Farm
project. She feels this project will provide something for every one of all ages, and
will provide very useful resources. She mentioned there are a number of other
Master Gardeners willing to help.
Paula Glogovac — an Alameda County Master Gardener who supports Design Phase
I of the Bernal Community Farm. She commented on how the Community Farm will
encourage healthy gardening and that Alameda County Master Gardeners will
provide support, research, hands-on demonstrations to help increase knowledge of
gardening, and participate in the future design work for the Community Farm.
Bill Lide — commented on how Pickleball is a great sport and the fastest-growing
sport in the United States. He discussed the importance of being able to plan ahead
and have courts that are close together. Mr. Lide noted that Pickleball players will
travel to play and areas that have added courts for this game are seeing positive
impacts.
Chenter Ying — indicated he is a Pickleball player and asked that the Commission
consider prioritizing his request for courts. He commented on the need for dedicated
courts that will draw crowds to non-paying courts, not paying courts as suggested
with the Tennis Park.
Marilyn Ludt — stated that Pickleball is a gathering opportunity and is a fast-growing
sport for young and old players that needs dedicated courts.
Gabrel Araiza — thanked the City of Pleasanton for all its community services and felt
the Commission had a tough job deciding on its priorities. He commented on Phase
II of the Vineyard Avenue Trail project, a project that began back in 1999, the beauty
of the trail, and the approved funding plan through development costs that was put in
place in 2006. He asked that priority be given to keep this project moving forward.
Chairperson Bowers closed the meeting for public comment at 8:05 p.m.
Commissioner Hekl commented on the lap pool step stools being a small project with
little funding needed. Ms. Murphy provided information about funding and the need
to close down portions of the Aquatic Center to complete repairs.
Ms. Dunaway advised that staff has tried some stairs, but the stairs will need to be
bolted into the deck in order to be ADA accessible, and restrictions were encountered
with the stairs borrowed from the City of Livermore.
Ms. Murphy advised the Commission that this was not a project that they need to
consider as a priority and that staff will keep Ms. Scarone updated on the progress
for this request.
Parks and Recreation Commission
February 14,2019
Page 6
