Review and Comment on the 2018 Library and Recreation Department Annual Report Ms., Murphy reviewed with Commissioners the 2018 Library and Recreation Department Annual Report. She commented on requests received for staff to provide high-level data and this report provides information from all divisions of the department and goes through the missions and values, noting that future reports will be provided quarterly. Ms. Murphy asked to provide comments and recommendations on the report. Commissioner Lehman asked for information about the Cultural Art Walk Plan. Ms. Bushong advised that it has been placed as a number three priority by the Civic Arts Commission. Chairperson Hertle suggested members of the Commission consider attending the March 12, 2019 City Council meeting to address support of any items in the Two-Year Work Plan. Commissioner Sabatini was advised by Ms. Murphy that decisions pertaining to programming are determined by staff. Chairperson Hertle stated that she liked the level of detail in the Annual Report, especially statistics, and questioned why the Library represented only four pages at the back of the document. She indicated she would use information from the report when discussing the role of the Library Commission in the community. Commissioner Hertle commented on the small number of subscribers to the monthly newsletter that leaves a big opportunity to raise awareness and thought Wi-Fi tracking was amazing. Ms. Murphy provided information about the combined expenditure budget for the Library and Recreation Department, the number of full-time staff members, and the community members served through all of the programs. Commissioner Parikh questioned whether the report was available to the public and felt it was important people have more access to learn about programs that are available. Ms. Murphy advised that this report was not available yet, but could certainly be made available and quarterly reports would be made available in the future. Chairperson Hertle asked about adding a link so the quarterly reports, when available, can be accessed on the website. Commissioner Lehman suggested a bound copy of this current report be made available for check-out at the library. Mr. Murphy advised that additional copies of this report would not be printed but the report would be added to the website and quarterly reports would be made available online and in print in the future.
