Chairperson Hertle indicated she was surprised at the number of programs available for the
community through one city department.
Commissioner Lehman stated he found it to be a fascinating document and was also surprised
at what programs were being offered.
Commissioner Rai asked about including more information about the Library in the Activities
Guide. Ms. Murphy noted that the last Activities Guide had included a lot of details about the
library and that additional pages will be included for library information in future copies of the
Activities Guide. Commissioner Rai felt this could be a good tool for the library.
Chairperson Hertle indicated she liked the report and looks forward to it continuing.
COMMISSION REPORTS
6. Little Free Library Committee Update
Commissioner Rai commented on the Next-Door App and whether it had been helpful. She
discussed a Little Free Library to be installed outside the Firehouse Arts Center within the next
few months and noted that the community has identified June 1 as the date for the Story Walk
with teens volunteering to help at the event. Commissioner Rai noted that as the committee
identifies other locations for little free libraries, they are connecting with the group making the
free libraries.
Chairperson Hertle referenced a post on Facebook about free libraries and wondered why a
ribbon-cutting ceremony is not taking place as each one is opened. She thought this would
be a good way to publicize the project. Commissioner Rai noted that this is something the
committee was not aware of, but would love to know about in the future.
Chairperson Hertle thanked Commissioner Rai for reaching out to the individuals putting up
the Little Free Libraries.
7. Other brief reports on any meetings, conferences, and/or seminars attended by
the Commission members
None.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Lehman provided information about his meeting with a High Stress Circulation
Flow Engineer who could help with traffic flow for the new library.
Library Commission
February 7,2019
Page 5
