• Protect and Enhance Pleasanton's Quality of Life, including Downtown
• Pursue Environmental Awareness, Health, Land Use and Preservation Issues
• Operate an Effective and Cost-Efficient Government
• Establish Integrated Initiatives for Organizational Success
Mr. Dolan additionally advised Commissioners that the current draft of 2019-2020 work plan,
recently updated to include potential priority projects identified by the public, contains a total of
72 projects. He noted that three (3) Civic Arts related Council priorities have been identified in
the new draft work plan and Commissioners are being requested to consider these projects,
and any others they think should be added as priorities, and then recommend two to three
priorities they would like to have included on the City Council 2019-2020 Two-Year Work Plan
Prioritization list.
The three Civic Arts related Council priorities: 1) Design Division Street Improvements
(Downtown); 2) Add a Culture Art Walk; and 3) Amador Theater Facility Assessment, were
reviewed with Commissioners by Ms. Whitney. Chairperson Pellegrino confirmed with Mr.
Dolan that from the 72 projects identified in the report staff was suggesting these three for
consideration by the Civic Arts Commission.
Mr. Dolan provided comment on the Amador Theater Facility Assessment noting that this was
a project from the previous two-year plan.
Commissioner Nene discussed inclusion of the Culture Art Walk in the Civic Center and
Library Master Plan, a project that still needed to be approved by a vote of the community and
suggested it be removed. Mr. Dolan provided information about the Art Walk being a project
that the Harrington's want to do and is something that could be included in a sequence of the
project, so he and the City Manager felt it could be incorporated with the Library and
Community Center Plan.
Commissioner Nene suggested all three projects be given approve and Commissioner Song
agreed. Commissioner Song felt the Culture Art /walk could be an educational tool but would
depend on funding available.
Commissioner Wedge-Bonde indicated that she liked all three projects but would put the
Amador Theater project as number two and move the Art Walk to number three. She felt the
theater was a project that needed to be completed and would be a big benefit to the
community.
Commissioner Jellison felt that the Harrington's wanted to do an Art Walk project quickly and
may not be willing to wait for approval of the Library and Civic Center Master Plan. She
agreed with Commissioner Wedge-Bonde's recommendations and commented on the need for
renovating the Amador Theater, especially since the balcony has now been closed.
Commissioner Jellison noted that improvements for Division Street have been discussed for a
long time and thought perhaps the Amador Theater project should be moved to number one.
Civic Arts Commission Minutes
February 4, 2019
Page 3
