The Human Services Commission, staff and RDA worked together to design a <br /> Pleasanton specific strategic planning process that included the following elements: <br /> • Four strategic planning workshops <br /> • Two focus groups with 26 service providers <br /> • Identification of the City's top human service priority needs and systemic <br /> challenges <br /> • Analysis of best practices and innovative strategies that address priority needs <br /> and systemic challenges <br /> • Identification of strategic actions based on community needs and systemic <br /> challenges <br /> • Finalization of strategic priorities and internal development goals through <br /> completion of a review of online survey responses. <br /> As a result of all the information obtained through this comprehensive strategic plan <br /> process, the commission determined that the following systemic challenges, human <br /> services needs and strategies represented the largest needs and best strategies for <br /> addressing those needs. <br /> Systemic Challenges: <br /> • Lack of consumer information about services/need for education <br /> • Lack of coordination, missed opportunities for collaboration, and duplication of <br /> services among service providers <br /> • Time and cost associated with obtaining services <br /> • Untapped resources. <br /> Human Service Needs: <br /> • Disability services and access <br /> • Food and nutrition <br /> • Health care and behavioral health <br /> • Senior services <br /> • Workforce development/unemployment <br /> • Youth services. <br /> Strategies: <br /> • Revise Human Services Commission grant-making protocols/RFPs to address <br /> identified needs and systemic challenges <br /> • Spearhead a community engagement and education campaign <br /> • Sponsor alliance among nonprofit, faith-based, and public agency providers <br /> • Create a workforce development program <br /> Page 3 of 7 <br />
