the lowest ranks). The Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan identifies the goal of LTS 1
and LTS 2 for the entire corridor.
As a result, the overall goal is to create a combination of improvements that will allow for
the comfort of all users and abilities. These improvements include a long-term buffered
bike lane design for the entire length of Foothill Road and an off-street path along the east
side of Foothill Road in the residential section of Foothill Road (Between Stoneridge Drive
and Bernal Avenue).
The various short-term and long-term improvements for all of Foothill Road are shown in
the Foothill Road BCP (Attachment 1).
Character Area 1 (Dublin Canyon Road to Stoneridge Drive)
This section is classified as the Employment and Retail Focus Area of Foothill Road. This
northern corridor area consists of the highest vehicular volumes due to the regional
employment and retail in and around Stoneridge Mall. The primary focus within this area
is to improve connectivity and comfort for bicyclists. Quick Build, Near-Term and Long-
Term improvements for Character Area 1 are listed in Table 2 (pages 21-22 of the Foothill
Road BCP). Some of the improvements include buffered bike lanes, repaving and/or
widening of existing paths, and installation of sidewalks.
It should be noted that several of the recommended improvements for Character Area 1
have recently been implemented with the Foothill Road paving/overlay project between
Dublin Canyon Road and Muirwood Drive (North), which is consistent with the City's
policy to implement such changes where repaving occurs. These improvements include
buffered bike lanes and repaving of the off-street path on the eastside of Foothill Road.
Character Area 2 (Stoneridge Drive to Bernal Avenue)
This middle section of the Foothill Road corridor consists of residential neighborhoods
and schools. The primary focus within this area is to provide and "all ages and abilities"
network by providing a multi-use path along the east side of Foothill Road, and to also
provide buffered bike lanes for the regional bicyclist. Quick Build, Near-Term and Long-
Term improvements for Character Area 2 are listed in Tables 3 through 5 (pages 34-40 of
the Foothill Road BCP). These improvements include buffered bike lanes, adding and/or
widening of existing paths/sidewalks, installing bicycle ramps, widening Foothill Road and
other improvements at various locations.
The image below is an example of the 10-foot shared use path and the 6-foot bike lane
with 2-foot buffer design that is recommended through Character Area 2.
