BACKGROUND
Foothill Road is an asset to Pleasanton's bicycle network. In 2016, staff began identifying
projects that would promote cycling on Foothill Road for a wider range of ages and
abilities. Due to the existing physical conditions, including roadway width, right of way
constraints, roadway ownership (City/County) and discontinuous bicycle amenities, it was
determined that a comprehensive evaluation of the Foothill Road corridor was needed to
provide a plan that would outline both short-term and long-term bicycle improvements to
the roadway. While the primary focus of the Foothill Road BCP is bicycle access,
information regarding other modes (i.e. vehicle and pedestrian) are also addressed where
feasible.
The City contracted with Fehr & Peers and began working on the Plan in 2017, with an
estimated completion date of December 2018. The first several months of work consisted
of data gathering, research, analysis and public outreach. The Bicycle, Pedestrian and
Trails Committee (BPTC) was used as the steering committee for the Plan. [Check-ins
with BPTC occurred on: June 2016, March 2018 and November 2018.]
DISCUSSION
The Foothill Road BCP divided Foothillts
- b
Road into three distinct land use character • _ Gbakai
areas: Employment and Retail Focus Area c
(Dublin Canyon Road to Stoneridge Drive),
wpasad Dr
Neighborhood Residential Focus Area
(Stoneridge Drive to Bernal Avenue), and
Q
the Low Density Residential and ate¢ """°°' "`
`••
F rw - fdtr Me
Recreational Focus Area (Bernal Avenue to w
Castlewood Drive).
