Tri-Valley Haven, Christine Dillman — Healthy Relationships Program and Anti-Bullyinq Proiect — <br /> advised that Tri-Valley Haven is requesting funds to be able to provide Healthy Relationship <br /> presentations for Pleasanton middle and high school students. Ms. Dillman advised that <br /> students are engaged in identifying signs of healthy relationships as well as the warning signs of <br /> an unhealthy relationship to help prevent them in engaging in dating violence. She advised the <br /> focus is to empower teens and change behaviors. <br /> Tri-Valley Haven is seeking funds for their Anti-Bullying Project that provides classroom <br /> programs for Pleasanton high and middle school students. The project informs and engages <br /> students in identifying unacceptable bullying and provides techniques that help them to avoid <br /> and/or intervene safely. The focus is to change behavior and empower teens. Ms. Dillman <br /> commented on 71% of students saying bullying is a problem and one out of ten students <br /> dropping out of school because of bullying issues. <br /> Commissioner Shotland discussed with Ms. Dillman the number of students finding bullying to <br /> be a problem and the number of students dropping out of school because of this issue. Ms. <br /> Dillman noted that numbers had been provided by the Pleasanton Unified School District. <br /> Commissioner Chew was advised by Ms. Dillman that the Anti-Bullying project they provide at <br /> Village High School is modified slightly from what is provided at the other high schools. <br /> Commissioner Inman questioned on how students reach out for help and was advised by Ms. <br /> Dillman that Tri-Valley Haven project presenters are available for students to contact. Ms. <br /> Dillman also commented on the number of students they can reach with the project based on <br /> the funding they may receive. <br /> Commissioner Franklin confirmed with Ms. Franklin the number of times they present the <br /> program to each class and Commissioner Li confirmed that funds being requested were to pay <br /> for staff. <br /> Ms. Dillman advised Commissioner Inman that if they did not receive funding from the City of <br /> Pleasanton it would require Tri-Valley Haven to work further with the Pleasanton Unified School <br /> District. <br /> Child Care Links, Kelly O'Laque Dulka and Vanessa Dilks — Community Engagement for High <br /> School Students and Essential Lanquage/Literacy for Toddlers — providing information about the <br /> Community Engagement programs that involves providing high school students with <br /> opportunities to explore community and service by participating in their Diaper Pantry program. <br /> She commented on the number of low-income families that are trying to reuse disposable <br /> diapers because they can't afford to buy more and how this program will take that stress away. <br /> Ms. Dulka discussed the skills that can be developed by teens working with other groups and <br /> businesses. <br /> Youth Commission Minutes <br /> March 14,2018 <br /> Page 3 <br />
