may come before the Commission in the future. Ms. Crose advised that this is a future goal of
the City, but in the meantime, agencies can submit a grant for equipment.
Mr. Duman commented on issues with lending equipment and the life of equipment.
Commissioner Pellegrino questioned if it would be possible to determine if agencies lend out
equipment for the next grant cycle. Ms. Crose commented on the liaison of the commission
with the groups and being able to report this information back to the commission. She thought
this might be a way for the Commission to check with agencies, or Mr. Patrick could include a
question in the mid-term report that asks agencies to provide this information. Mr. Patrick
commented on information asked for in the mid-term report. Commissioner Pellegrino felt
asking for information in the mid-term report would be sufficient.
Commissioner Nene felt it was fair for Cantabella to request funds for equipment.
Mr. Kohl, Pacific Chamber Orchestra, suggesting that PCAC be allowed to retain their
recommended funding that the $384 be taken from the Pacific Chamber Orchestra Assembly
Program for PUSD Elementary Schools request. He suggested that the funding amount for
their Assembly Program be reduced from $4667 to $4,000 and that their Matinee Concert
Program be increased from $3,792 to $4,074.61.
Ms. Crose thanked the groups for their generousness and willingness to work with other
groups.
Commissioner Steenman commented on the great work of the agencies, but stated he was still
unsure how sound equipment would benefit Pleasanton residents.
Commissioner Morales questioned if the percent of requested funds being allocated would be
sufficient for the agencies to provide their programs. Mr. Patrick advised that the agencies can
step forward and indicate such if they feel they will not be able to provide their programs.
Commissioner Pellegrino commented on late reporting and non-use of funds by some
agencies and Commissioner Wedge-Bonde commented on past late reporting by some
agencies and the importance that reports be provided on time. Ms. Crose also commented on
this issue.
Commissioner Casey discussed the need for all paperwork to be done and provided on time
and asked that staff provide some criteria for penalizing agencies not willing to go along with
the Commission's recommendation. Chairperson Jellison advised that the Commission has
never put together any recommendations, or mechanism, for penalizing. Ms. Crose advised
that a sub-committee from the Civic Arts and Youth Commissions would need to be put in
place to make aby changes to the grant process, but this is something that could be done
before the next grant cycle. Commissioner agreed that this is something that needs to be put
on the agenda for a future meeting.
Civic Arts Commission Minutes
March 5, 2018
Page 3
