141 Geotechnical Investigation
Engage a geotechnical engineering subconsultant, CaI Engineering and Geology to review
historic geological data, conduct field investigations and soils borings, perform laboratory testing
and prepare geotechnical recommendations.
CaI Engineering and Geology will obtain a permit from Zone 7 water to conduct boring
operations.
Six (6) borings to a depth of ten (10) feet are included in this task. All drilling spoils will be left on
site within the future construction footprint.
Environmental testing will be completed on soil samples collected from the parking lot. Tests will
include:
Cam17 Metals (EPA 200.8/6020)
BTEX & TPH as Gas (EPA 8021/8015) MTBE
TPH as Diesel (EPA 8015)
Total Petroleum Oil & Grease (EPA 1664/5520 E/B&F)
Volatile Organic Compounds (EPA 524.2/624/8260)
Geotechnical analyses will be completed to develop seismic design parameters and calculate
retaining wall loads and foundation capacities. A geotechnical report will be prepared in
conformance with Caltrans Division of Engineering Services' Foundation Reports for Earth
Retaining Systems (ERS) dated August 2015.
150 Preliminary Design (35%)
Develop Preliminary Plans to establish fundamental elements of the design. The Preliminary
Design Phase is intended to allow CITY, utility companies and other involved agencies to review
and comment upon the basic design concepts early in the process. The proposed plans for this
preliminary submittal include:
• Title/Index Sheet
• Typical Cross Sections
• Preliminary Improvement Plan
• Preliminary Stormwater Treatment Plan
• Preliminary Landscape Plan (no Irrigation)
• Preliminary Electrical Plan
Prepare a Preliminary Estimate of Probable Construction Cost based on items and quantities of
work shown on the Preliminary Plans and other anticipated improvements. Prices will be based
on the magnitude of the quantities, our experience with similar projects and engineer's
judgment.
160 Draft PSE (75%)
Based on comments received from Preliminary Design, advance the design to the point that all
major design issues and solutions are represented in the plans. The following types of plans
will be prepared:
