402.1.2 Pilot sprinklers shall be provided in the attic and between floors where floor / <br />ceiling assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. Pilot sprinklers shall be 212 F°, <br />7/16 inch orifice. Pilot sprinklers shall be located at maximum 30 feet centers (Maximum 15 <br />feet from outside walls) and shall be located at all heat and fire sources including furnaces, hot <br />water heaters, above kitchen ranges, etc. <br /> <br />402.2 Standard for Mid-Sized Multi-Family Residential Sprinkler Systems for Five (5) <br />to Fifteen (15) Dwelling Units and/or Residential Structures Not Exceeding twelve thousand <br />square feet (12,000 square feet) shall be as follows: <br /> <br />402.2.1 The number of design sprinklers shall be the hydraulically most remote six (6) <br />sprinklers above or below the ceiling. When a common fire sprinkler and domestic water supply <br />is provided, the fire sprinkler calculation shall include the simultaneous domestic flow of five (5) <br />gallons per minute per dwelling unit. This domestic flow shall be calculated at the base of the <br />riser. <br /> <br />Exception: This standard does not include hotels, motels, or day care centers with more than <br />twelve (12) occupants. <br /> <br />402.2.2 Sprinklers shall be provided in attics and between floors where floor/ceiling <br />assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. <br /> <br />Exception: Townhouses with approved one-hour separations at the property line shall have <br />pilot sprinklers per 402.1.2. <br /> <br />402.3 Water Demand <br /> <br />The water demand for the system shall be determined by multiplying the design area of the <br />largest compartment by the specified application rate. Additional demand may be required for <br />domestic use as specified in 9.401 and 9.402. <br /> <br />See. 9.403 Sprinkler Coverage <br /> <br />403.1 Residential sprinklers shall be spaced so that the maximum area protected by a single <br />sprinkler does not exceed 144 square feet (13.4 m) or in accordance with the sprinkler listing. <br /> <br />403.2 The maximum distance between sprinklers shall not exceed listed distance of the fire <br />sprinkler on or between pipelines, or minimum distance between sprinklers within a <br />compartment shall be 8 feet. <br /> <br />403.3 The minimum operating pressure of any sprinkler shall be in accordance with the listing <br />information of the sprinkler and provide the minimum flow rates specified in 9.401. <br /> 21 <br /> <br /> <br />
