Friends is a nonprofit corporation, exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code, that serves as an advocate for the City of Pleasanton Public
Library ("Library"); and
B. The mission of Friends is to: (1) promote public awareness and encourage support
of Library facilities and programs; (2) foster understanding and communication between the
Library and the community: and (3) solicit, receive, hold, and manage goods, services, and funds
donated for the furnishing, enhancement, and ongoing improvements of the Library and to serve
as the perpetual trustee of, and steward for, donations made to the Library; and
C. The Library depends on the relationship and funding support of Friends for
programs and services provided at Library; and
D. City and Friends wish to enter into this MOU to establish the roles and
responsibilities between Friends and City concerning Friends support of the Library and the
operation and management of Friends use of Library equipment and space.
NOW, THEREFORE, the parties agree as follows:
I. ROLES OF FRIENDS
A. Fundraising
1. Friends will engage in activities to support, and increase
community awareness of the Library, such as: funding Library programs; holding a semi-annual
book sale; operating an online book store; and running the Friends Bookstore located inside the
Library. Such efforts should reflect Library in a positive way and be coordinated as appropriate
with Library staff.
2. Friends will provide funds to Library for the support of Library
services and purchase of Library materials and equipment at the discretion of the Friends.
