BACKGROUND <br />The Friends is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to: (1) promote public <br />awareness and encourage support of Library facilities and programs; (2) foster <br />understanding and communication between the Library and the community: and (3) <br />solicit, receive, hold, and manage goods, services, and funds donated for the furnishing, <br />enhancement, and ongoing improvements of the Library and to serve as the perpetual <br />trustee of, and steward for, donations made to the Library. The Friends have been part <br />of the success of the Library for more than thirty years. <br />To accomplish their organizational mission, the Friends hold semi-annual book sales in <br />the Library, operate an online book store, and operate a small book store in the Library. <br />All books for these sales are provided through community donations and de -selected <br />Library materials. All profits earned through these book sales go back to support the <br />Library. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Library and the Friends have had a positive relationship for many years. This MOU <br />documents the mutually beneficial relationship as it exists between the two organizations <br />and honors the unique mission of the Friends to support the Library.
