Members of the steering committee <br /> collected the required signatures for the petitions, and a strong majority of the residents <br /> supported the traffic calming plan. All of the property owners adjacent to the proposed <br /> speed lumps supported the installation of these devices. <br /> On July 24, 2017 a second neighborhood meeting was held to provide details on the <br /> draft Traffic Calming Plan and receive public comment. Approximately 40 residents I <br /> attended this second neighborhood meeting and provided input on the recommended <br /> tools as well as additional measures that were previously considered or might be <br /> considered in the future. The plan was supported and the residents were happy to hear <br /> that the City would complete a follow-up analysis to measure the benefits of the plan. <br /> The estimated construction cost for this project is $25,000 (excluding the Bernal Avenue <br /> modification). Speed lump cost is $4,500 per lump (the installation will be incorporated <br /> into the City's 2017 overlay project), the radar speed sign cost is $6,000 and the <br /> crosswalks and signs have a lump sum cost of $1,000. The installation of all of the <br /> devices will be scheduled to coincide with the City's overlay project so that all devices <br /> are installed at the same time. <br /> The Bernal Avenue at the Sunol Boulevard/ First Street intersection improvement will <br /> provide an improved level of service and reduce the delay that occurs in the AM Peak <br /> Hour. During school drop off, intersection queues can stretch back up the hill, <br /> sometimes extending over a quarter mile and takes multiple cycles to pass through the <br /> intersection.
