Independence and Junipero residential streets to bypass the traffic congestion.
Eliminating this congestion point will allow for shorter travel times on the arterial and
make the residential cut through route less appealing.
The intersection improvement was identified by the City Council as a high priority work
plan item and is already included in the two year CIP with design to occur in fiscal year
2017/18 and construction to occur in fiscal year 2018/19. Staff will be issuing a request
for proposal later this fall to analyze design alternatives and will share these alternatives
with the public. Detailed design will follow and it is anticipated that an advertisement for
construction will be issued in the fall of 2018.
BUDGET
The following is a summary of the estimated project costs:
Sufficient funds exist in the Junipero and Independence Traffic Calming Devices CIP
project to cover the estimated $25,000 cost of the speed lumps, radar speed sign and
crosswalks.
The Bernal Avenue at the Sunol Boulevard/First Street intersection improvement is
funded in the CIP and a separate staff report will be brought to City Council for both the
design and construction contracts.
Submitted by: Fis al Review: Approved by:
((id-
Gerry Beaudin Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
