The smoke from burning marijuana has been found by the State
of California's Office of Environmental Health Hazards to contain carcinogens known to cause cancer in
humans. Many of the secondhand smoke complaints from residents often cite marijuana smoke as the main
concern. Young children and those with chronic conditions like asthma, other lung or heart diseases, and
diabetes are especially at risk for exacerbation of their symptoms.
1
