MINUTES <br />of <br />THE MEETING <br />of <br />THE CITY COUNCIL <br />Pleasanton, California <br />March 7, 1966 <br />THE CITY COUNCIL met in Adjourned Regular Session at 7 :30 P.M. on the above date <br />with Mayor Long presiding. <br />ROLL CALL by the City Clerk evidenced the following attendance: Councilmen Gerton, <br />Harding, McWilliams and Mayor Long were present. Councilman Bubics was absent. Mr. <br />Fales, City Manager, Mr. Struthers, City Attorney, Mr. Campbell, City Engineer, and <br />Mrs. Woodward, City Clerk, were present. <br />MEETING OPEN FOR ANY MEMBER OF THE AUDIENCE TO ADDRESS THE COUNCIL <br />Mr. Huggins, representing the DeMolay organization, requested a proclamation <br />from the Mayor declaring March 13 -20th, 1966, as DeMolay Week. <br />It was moved by Councilman McWilliams and seconded by Councilman Gerton that the <br />Mayor be authorized to sign a proclamation declaring March 13 -20, 1966, DeMolay Week. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Gerton, Harding, McWilliams and Mayor Long <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilmen Bubica <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />Appeal of Shell Oil Co., 315 Derby Ave.. Oakland. from an adverse decision of the <br />Planning Commission in denying an application for a Conditional Use Permit in order <br />to construct an automobile service station with a reduced front side and rear and <br />set - back,. located at the southeast corner of First St. and Vineyard Ave.. in a C -T <br />DistrictContinued from February 28. 1966) <br />Mr. Pelee stated that this public hearing was continued from the meeting of <br />February 28, 1966. <br />Mayor Long declared the public hearing open. <br />Mr. Dan Christopoulos, representing the Shell Oil Company, presented the plot <br />plan of the proposed service station to be constructed on the corner of Vineyard <br />Avenue and First Street. <br />Mr. Fales reviewed the action of the Planning Commission in this matter and <br />stated that the primary reason the Planning Commission denied the Conditional Use <br />Permit was because approval of the application would allow construction of a ser- <br />vice station in immediate proximity to existing multiple dwellings located on the <br />south side of the parcel. In addition the construction of the station would cause <br />certain traffic problems which were undesirable. <br />Mr. Christopoulos read a letter of intent which stated that as soon as it be- <br />came economically feasible, the Shell Oil Company would acquire the property on <br />which the existing residential dwellings were located and that these dwellings <br />would be demolished. <br />Considerable discussion regarding the zoning standards of the City of Pleasanton <br />ensued. <br />It was moved by Councilman McWilliams and seconded by Councilman Harding that <br />the public hearing be closed. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Gerton, Harding, McWilliams and Mayor Long <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Bubics <br />Mr. Safreno, owner of the subject property, requested that a decision on this <br />matter be deferred until a full Council was in attendance. <br />Mr. Struthers explained the procedure that must be taken should this appeal be <br />denied. <br />It was moved by Councilman McWilliams and seconded by Councilman Gerton that <br />the decision on the appeal of the Shell Oil Company be continued on March 14, 1966, <br />at 7:30 P.M. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Gerton, Harding, McWilliams and Mayor Long <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Bubics <br />Mayor Long recessed the meeting at 8.45 P.M. <br />Mayor Long reconvened the meeting at 8 :55 P.M. <br />
