BACKGROUND
Prior to 2012, emergency dispatch services for Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department
was handled locally by the Livermore Police Department. In 2012, the cities decided to
move fire emergency dispatch services to the Regional Communications Center run by
ACFD to enhance public safely through participation in a regional emergency
communications agreement. In 2012, the cities of Pleasanton and Livermore entered
into identical five (5) year agreements with the Alameda County Fire Department
(ACFD) for ACFD to provide emergency dispatch and regional communications through
the Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center (ACRECC). The
term of the agreement was from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2017. The agreement allows
for an extension of an additional five (5) years upon mutual agreement between the
parties.
DISCUSSION
After discussions with the City of Pleasanton, the City of Livermore, the Livermore-
Pleasanton Fire Department and ACFD, staff is requesting that the Council authorize
the City Manager to sign the five (5) year extension (Attachment 1). The agreement
provides increased public safety through the participation in a regional emergency
communications system. Additionally, the agreement is cost effective as it allows the
city to maintain a reduced in-house facility (including reduced software, hardware and
personnel costs) while maintaining a very high level of emergency communications
capability with the added benefit of enhanced regional participation and cooperation.
Submi d b : Fiscal R view: Approved by:
Jeff Peters Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Assistant Fire Chief Director of Finance City Manager
Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Dept
Attachments:
1.
