Potentially unstable soils discovered during excavation are required by <br /> provisions of the California Building Code to be removed and replaced, or <br /> otherwise treated to provide appropriate foundation support. Weak soils <br /> would be re-engineered specifically for stability prior to construction. As a <br /> condition of approval, the project is required to comply with the <br /> recommendations of the project's geotechnical consultant, including <br /> designing foundation and drainage geotechnical aspects of the final <br /> development plans to ensure that the recommendations have been properly <br /> incorporated into the project. Therefore, the potential impact would be less <br /> than significant. <br /> b) Natural erosion is frequently accelerated by human activities such as site <br /> preparation for construction and alteration of topographic features. Grading, <br /> vegetation removal, as well as excavation and trenching for utility lines, will <br /> disturb soils, which could increase the rate of erosion if controls or best <br /> management practices are not in place. As a standard condition of <br /> approval, the project is required to meet the requirements for stormwater <br /> erosion control measures during design, construction and implementation <br /> phases of the project. Additionally, the geotechnical analysis, prepared by <br /> Cornerstone Earth Group, recommends that the project sponsor maintain <br /> specific temporary slopes, where temporary shoring is required during site <br /> preparations, to prevent erosion.9 Compliance with these recommendations <br /> are required as conditions of approval. Therefore, potential impacts would be <br /> less than significant. <br /> c) There are no known geologic hazards on the site and limited risk of landslide, <br /> lateral spreading, subsidence, liquefaction or collapse. The State of California <br /> provides minimum standards for building design through the California <br /> Building Code, including specific seismic safety requirements. State <br /> earthquake protection law requires that buildings be designed to resist stresses <br /> produced by lateral forces caused by earthquakes. As a condition of <br /> approval, the project would be required to comply with the applicable codes <br /> and standards to provide earthquake resistant design to meet or exceed <br /> current seismic requirements and mitigate any specific soil condition <br /> concerns.
