Alison DeJunq — Eden l&R, Inc. / 2-1-1 Alameda County — provided details about the number
of calls 2-1-1 received from Pleasanton residents. Ms. DeJung advised that 99% of all calls
were from low-income families and housing concerns was the number one issue. She advised
that 2-1-1 plays a critical role in disaster situations and the program is dependent on receiving
funding from local cities.
Natalie Brown — Hope Hospice / Grief Support Center and The Volunteer Program — thanked
the Commission for past support. Ms. Brown advised that Hope Hospice has experienced a
50% increase in need and has submitted a grant for a new phone system. She also provided
information about the volunteer support services that are being provided to patients.
Commissioner Wright asked about help with HIPPA requirements and Commissioner Sedlak
questioned whether they would be buying or leasing the phone equipment.
Gloria Gregory, CityServe of the Tri-Valley — thanked the Commission for past support. Ms.
Gregory advised that CityServe is the main source in the Tri-Valley for providing emergency
shelter and they are a network for community collaboration, providing assistance to the
homeless, when people are in danger of losing homes, providing students with school support,
and helping by providing rent assistance to avoid eviction.
Commissioner Wright asked Ms. Gregory about someone at the fairgrounds who was in need
of an electric wheelchair and the various entities she was able to put together to help this
person.
Lenora Marlander— Legal Assistance for Seniors —thanked the City for their continued support
of the program. Ms. Marlander provided information about services provided to local seniors
and advised that representative from Legal Assistance meets with seniors at the Pleasanton
Senior Center or at their homes to educate and provide services.
At the end of presentations the Commission took a 10-minute break.
Ms. Hopkins reviewed with the Commission the funding recommendations made by staff and
advised that these had been made based on the needs within the community. She suggested
the Commission first consider the funding requests made for Capital projects.
Commissioner Roby confirmed with Ms. Hopkins the amount of funding available for Capital
projects and Ms. Hopkins advised that when considering Capital projects the project should
meet CDBG requirements. She also noted that Mr. Erickson had provided additional
information on the Tri-Valley Haven Capital project and discussions that have taken place
between the three (3) cities regarding the need for rehabilitation of other items and not just
solar panels. Ms. Hopkins advised that staff from all three cities would be working with Tri-
Valley Haven on this project.
Commissioner Hayes questioned whether any of these projects could be phased and Ms.
Hopkins advised that this would need to be done.
Human Services Commission
March 1, 2017
Page 5
