Identify Existing Conditions
Task 2.1 Identify Roadway and Pathway Dimensions
BKF will obtain available as-built information from Caltrans, including the CAD files used —
,,R.ti ° :,0,■
by BKF recent projects that have yet to be recorded by Caltrans. The plans will be :. l,►. +• .. •
updated to include any revisions and survey information obtained and transcribed by Ty ,•-e
BKF surveyors. BKF will perform topographic survey of existing curb ramps including
grades and cross slopes of pedestrian path of travel to confirm ADA compliance.
Existing facilities that are not in compliance with ADA guidelines will be documented 1
BKF will conduct field reviews of existing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure or there
lack of, and will determine the length, width, grade, cross-slope and other relevant
dimensions of paths, roadway crossings, and curb ramps. Existing improvements such as type of bike facility, number of
curb ramps, lane widths and number of lanes and pavement markings and signage will be documented. This information
will be added to the project's CAD plans.
An assessment will be conducted on the vehicle and pedestrian signal equipment, including size of signal heads, presence
of countdown lights, and location and type of pedestrian push buttons. The team will also assess the presence and
condition of bicycle detectors.
BKF will assess the existing vehicular design speeds of the overcrossing and ramps based on horizontal and vertical
alignments and sight obstructions.
Other existing safety issues such as poor pavement, tripping hazards, bottlenecks and narrow improvements will be noted
for consideration and assessment.
Task 2.2 Assess Traffic and Collision Conditions
BKF will document Average Daily Traffic volumes for the interchange area if available and will obtain and evaluate the
project area's collision history. Vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle collision data for a five-year period will be plotted and
assessed. The team will summarize the collision history by location, modes involved, types of collisions, and time of
collisions. This information would also be useful in the pursuit of funding.
Task 2.3 Identify Pedestrian and Bicycle Issues
For this task, the BKF Team will confirm the potential locations with issues and prepare a fact sheet for each location
documenting existing conditions. The fact sheets will include photographs, pedestrian and bicycle volume data, and plan
and profile diagrams.
